Cathy Cohen Honored for Her Undergraduate Teaching

Cathy J. Cohen, the David and Mary Winton Green Professor in Political Science at the University of Chicago, received the 2012 Quantrell Award from the university. Established in 1938, the award is considered the nation’s oldest prize for undergraduate teaching.

Professor Cohen came to the University of Chicago in 2002 after serving on the faculty at Yale University. At the University of Chicago she has served as the deputy provost for graduate education and is the former director of the Center for the Study of Race, Politics and Culture at the University of Chicago. Professor Cohen is the author of two books: Democracy Remixed: Black Youth and the Future of American Politics (Oxford University Press, 2010) and The Boundaries of Blackness: AIDS and the Breakdown of Black Politics (University of Chicago Press, 1999).

Dr. Cohen is a graduate of Miami University and holds a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan.
