Board Approves Academic Restructuring Plan at North Carolina Central University

The University of North Carolina Board of Governors has approved a restructuring of academic programs at North Carolina Central University, a historically Black educational institution in Durham. Fourteen academic programs are being eliminated or merged into other programs. The College of Science and Technology will be merged with the College of Liberal Arts to form the College of Arts and Sciences.

Bachelor’s degree programs in sociology, public administration, art, and French will be eliminated. The master’s degree program in sociology is also being cut. The mathematics and physics departments will merge as will the English and modern foreign language departments.

The restructuring is expected to save the university $500,000.
