Jose Cossa Receives the 2012 Joyce Cain Award

Jose Cossa, an independent scholar of comparative and international education and founder of Maguiguane Consulting, is the winner of the 2012 Joyce Cain Award from the Comparative and International Education Society. The award is given to recognize “an outstanding scholarly article that explores themes related to people of African descent.” Dr. Cossa was honored for his article “System Transfer, Education, and Development in Mozambique,”  which was published in the International Journal of Education Policy and Leadership.

A native of Mozambique, Dr. Cossa is the author of Power, Politics, and Higher Education in Southern Africa: International Regimes, Local Governments, and Educational Autonomy (Cambria Press, 2008).  Dr. Cossa has held visiting assistant professor positions at Loyola University in Chicago and Colgate University, adjunct professor positions at Loyola University Chicago’s School of Continuing and Professional Studies and Dominican University’s School of Leadership and Continuing Studies, and a lecturer position at Cape Theological Seminary in Cape Town, South Africa.

Dr. Cossa is a graduate of Swaziland College of Theology. He holds a master’s degree from the Cape Theological Seminary and a doctorate in cultural and educational policy studies from Loyola University in Chicago.
