African Americans Make Up Less Than Two Percent of All Applicants to Princeton’s Graduate Programs

Princeton University announced that it offered admission to its graduate programs to 1,226 students. Slightly more than 12,000 students applied for admission to Princeton’s graduate degree programs. Thus, 10.2 percent of all applicants were accepted. Foreign students made up more than half of all applicants. Students from 70 different countries were offered admission.

Princeton reports that 1,417 Americans of color were among the more than 12,000 applicants. This group included 236 African Americans. Thus, African Americans were less than 2 percent of all applicants to Princeton’s graduate programs.  A total of 188 students of color were among the 1,226 students admitted.

  1. It seems pretty obvious that Princeton needs to recommit themselves to upgrading and enhancing their recruitment of African American students. Good, highly qualified African American students are out there. Also, Black Princeton alums need to help out. Aren’t they the beneficiary of affirmative action? Let’s not forget that.
