A Trio of Black Professors Win Awards

Geralyn E. Stephens, assistant professor and program coordinator for career and technical education at Wayne State University in Detroit, has been selected to receive the 2012 Blackboard Catalyst Award for Exemplary Course Program. She will be honored for developing the course, “History and Principles of Career and Technical Education.”

Dr. Stephens is a graduate of Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti. She holds master’s and doctoral degrees in education from Wayne State University.

Donald I. Anadu, a professor of biology at South Carolina State University in Orangeburg, received the Owerri Memento from the Federal University of Technology in Nigeria. Dr. Anadu was in his native Nigeria to present a paper entitled, “Fisheries and Aquaculture Development in Nigeria: The Challenges and Possibilities.”

Professor Anadu is a graduate of the University of Nigeria-Nsukka. He holds a master’s degree in applied hydrobiology from the University of London and a Ph.D. in fisheries from Oregon State University.

Lee David Legette, professor of music at Winston-Salem State University in North Carolina, is the recipient of the Award for Excellence in Teaching from the University of North Carolina Board of Governors. Dr. Legette has been on the Winston-Salem State University faculty for more than 21 years.

Professor Legette is a graduate of Fayetteville State University in North Carolina. He holds a master’s degree from the University of Iowa and a doctorate in music education from Florida State University.
