A Milestone Appointment in Mathematics at Howard University

This fall, Talitha Washington will become the second Black woman to hold a tenured position as an associate professor of mathematics at Howard University, the historically Black university in Washington, D.C. She has been serving as a visiting associate professor at Howard. From 2005 to 2011, Dr. Washington was on the mathematics department faculty at the University of Evansville in Indiana. Earlier, she was an assistant professor of mathematics at The College of New Rochelle in New York.

Dr. Washington is a magna cum laude graduate of Spelman College in Atlanta. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of Connecticut.
