New Scholarship for Black Students at Florida Gulf Coast University

The African Network of Southwest Florida was established in 2004 to promote Africa’s rich heritage and diverse culture. Its self-stated mission is to “enhance the quality of life for the men, women, and children of African descent by promoting literary, raising awareness of African culture and diversity past, present and future.”

The network has now established a scholarship fund at Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers. The African Network of Southwest Florida Scholarship Fund will benefit students of African descent who have shown superior academic credentials during their high school years. Applicants will be required to write an essay on any family hardship they have faced and to relate how their academic efforts at the university will benefit the people of African descent.
