King Davis Selected as Founding Director of a New Institute at the University of Texas

King Davis was appointed founding director of the Institute for Urban Policy Research and Analysis at the University of Texas. He has been serving as interim director during the institute’s start-up phase.

Dr. Davis is a professor and Robert Lee Sutherland Chair in Mental Health and Social Policy in the university’s School of Social Work. He joined the faculty at the University of Texas in 2000 after teaching at Virginia Commonwealth University and serving as commissioner of the Virginia Department of Mental Health.

Dr. Davis holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from California State University. He earned a Ph.D. at Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts.

In Memoriam: Faith Ringgold, 1930-2024

Ringgold was a mixed media artist, best known for her narrative quilts which centered around African American and women's representation. She was a professor emerita of art with the University of California, San Diego where she taught for 15 years.
