President Julianne Malveaux Announces She Is Leaving Bennett College in May

Julianne Malveaux, the 15th president of Bennett College in Greensboro, North Carolina, has announced that she is stepping down on May 6. Dr. Malveaux said in a statement that she was leaving to pursue other challenges.

“Leading Bennett College has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life,” Dr. Malveaux said in the statement. “In my five years at the college, we have embraced Bennett’s historic commitment to create an oasis where women are educated, celebrated, and transformed into 21st century leaders and global thinkers.”

Dr. Malveaux is an economist, author, and educator and for many years wrote a syndicated newspaper column. She was named president of Bennett College in 2007, succeeding Johnnetta Cole.

Dr. Malveaux is a graduate of Boston College where she also earned a master’s degree. She holds a Ph.D. in economics from MIT.
