Sonia Sanchez Named Poet Laureate of Philadelphia

Sonia Sanchez, professor emerita of English at Temple University, was named poet laureate for the City of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Professor Sanchez taught at Temple University for more than 20 years. Now 77 years old, Professor Sanchez is the author of 18 books, including her most recent work, Morning Haiku (Beacon Press). She has also authored several children’s books and seven plays.

A native of Alabama, Sanchez is a graduate of Hunter College in New York City.
