Xavier University in New Orleans has signed an agreement with the government of China to establish a Confucius Institute on campus. There are more than 300 Confucius Institutes worldwide and 80 are in the United States. Under the agreement, Xavier will begin to offer courses in the Mandarin language during the spring 2012 semester. A group of students from Xavier will travel to China this summer to study at Hebei University.
