Joyce Ester Named President of Kennedy-King College in Chicago

Joyce Ester was named president of Kennedy-King College, one of the seven campuses of the City Colleges of Chicago. The appointment is effective in December. About 89 percent of all students at the college are black.

Dr. Ester has been serving as associate vice president for student services at Bakersfield College in California. Previously she has held administrative posts at California State University at Fresno and the University of California at Santa Barbara.

Dr. Ester is a graduate of Northern Illinois University in DeKalb. She earned a doctorate in education at the University of California at Santa Barbara.

  1. I have worked closely with Dr. Ester at Bakersfield College in California. She is a dynamic leader, organizer and administrator. She was very instrumental in getting a veterans resource center on campus within a year of her arriving at BC. I am sad to see her go but am excited for Kennedy-King College. This wonderful woman has the heart to match her intellect.
    She will be missed here in Bakersfield.
