In Memoriam: Winston C. Doby (1941-2011)

Winston C. Doby, vice chancellor for students affairs emeritus at the University of  California at Los Angeles, has died after a long battle with cancer. He was 70 years old.

Doby graduated from UCLA with a degree in mathematics and taught at Freemont High School in Los Angeles for four years. He then returned to UCLA to earn a master’s degree and educational doctorate. He joined the university’s administration in 1969. He was vice chancellor of student affairs from 1981 to 2001. Dr. Doby also served as vice president for educational outreach and vice president for student affairs for the University of California system.
