In Memoriam: Royzell L. Dillard

Royzell Dillard, assistant professor of music, director of university choirs, and minister of music at the Memorial Church at Hampton University in Virginia, has died. Professor Dillard had been on the Hampton University faculty since 1986. He was also the national choir director for the 105 Voices of History, an ensemble of students from the nation’s historically black colleges and universities.

Dillard held bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Hampton University.

  1. Mr. Dillard was my wonderful mentor. He will be missed by his devoted students. It was an honor to serve as his Student Conductor and also as President of the Hampton University Gospel Choir: HIS CHOSEN SOUNDS. His memory lives on in our lives.
