Howard University Honors Samuel F. Yette, Former Professor and Journalist

Howard University in Washington, D.C., has announced the establishment of a scholarship fund in honor of Samuel F. Yette. Professor Yette taught journalism at Howard from 1972 to 1986. Yette was the author of The Choice: The Issue of Black Survival in America and the co-author of Washington and the Two Marches, 1963 and 1983: The Third American Revolution. He died this past January.

Janette Dates, dean of the School of Communications at Howard, said, “Professor Yette was a man of vision, intellect, and immense character. His skill as a journalist in understanding truth, his ability to analyze truth and to write about that truth was unsurpassed. We are proud that his legacy at Howard will continue through the creation of this program.”

  1. Sam Yette was a schoolmate at Tennessee State University. The last time that I saw him was at our 50th class reunion in 2005.

    Thank you for remembering him. He was a great writer and teacher. He was editor of our school newspaper.
