Grants and Gifts
• The University of Maryland Eastern Shore, the historically black educational institution in Princess Anne, received a $355,000 donation from alumnus Allen J. Singleton, Class of 1959. The funds will be used to create an endowed scholarship fund to honor Vernon Stone, a professor who taught at the university in the 1950s and 1960s.
• Albany Medical College in New York received a $1 million gift from Phoebe and Michael Bender IV to endow a professorship in neurology and to establish a scholarship fund for minority students.
