Vanderbilt University Honors an African-American Pioneer

Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, has named a residence hall in honor of Walter R. Murray Jr., who was one of the first black undergraduates of the university. He was also one of the first black administrators at Vanderbilt and was the first African American to serve on the university’s board of trustees.

Murray, who died in 1998, was the founder of the Association of Vanderbilt Black Alumni.
