Grants
• South Carolina State University, the historically black educational institution in Orangeburg, South Carolina, received a $250,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Education for its Upward Bound program in mathematics and the sciences.
• Philander Smith College, the historically black educational institution in Little Rock, Arkansas, received a $226,600 grant from the U.S. Department of Education for its Upward Bound program to provide summer enrichment programs in mathematics and science to low-income high school students.
