The Higher Education of the First Black Woman Named to a Maryland Appeals Court

Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley recently appointed Michele D. Hotten to the Court of Special Appeals for the Fourth Appellate Circuit. Judge Hotten is the first African-American woman to hold a seat on any appeals court in the state of Maryland. Previously, she served as a circuit court judge in Prince George’s County.

Judge Hotten is a graduate of the University of South Florida and the Howard University School of Law.
