College of Staten Island to Combat Hate Crimes in the Local Community

In recent years, a series of violent and brutal hate crimes have occurred on Staten Island, a borough of New York City. Now, a consortium of elected officials, community leaders, educators, neighborhood associations, businesses, and citizens groups has mounted a campaign to increase racial tolerance on Staten Island. The effort is entitled, “I Am Staten Island.”

The College of Staten Island, a division of the City University of New York, is an active participant in the campaign. The college will conduct diversity training seminars and hold workshops on racial tolerance throughout the local community.
