Embattled Mississippi Valley State University President Steps Down

Lester C. Newman, who has served as president of Mississippi Valley State University for the past nine years, announced that he will relinquish his post on July 15. Newman has faced calls for his resignation from both faculty and alumni groups in recent months. In February the faculty senate issued a vote of “no confidence” in Newman. Critics charged that Newman was a micromanager and treated faculty and staff unprofessionally.
