Finally, Some Good News for Charles R. Drew University of Medicine

In welcome news, the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education announced recently that the Charles R. Drew University of Medicine in Los Angeles would maintain its full accreditation. The university, which trains mainly African-American and Latino physicians, had received unfavorable reviews in both 2001 and 2003. A third unfavorable review would have resulted in a loss of accreditation.

The announcement that the university would retain its overall accreditation does not affect the training programs in surgery, radiology, or neonatology, which previously had been shut down by the accrediting agency.
