New President Named at Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte

Ronald L. Carter was named the thirteenth president of Johnson C. Smith University, the historically black educational institution in Charlotte, North Carolina. He will take office this coming July. Dr. Carter has served since 1977 as provost and dean of the faculty at Coker College in Hartsville, South Carolina.

Carter is a graduate of Morehouse College. He holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in the philosophy of religion from Boston University.
