Amherst College Achieves a Record Number of Black Applicants

Last fall, Amherst College, the highly regarded liberal arts institution in western Massachusetts, ranked first in the JBHE annual survey of black freshmen at the nation’s 30 leading liberal arts colleges. Since that time Amherst has eliminated loans from its student financial aid packages.

Now the college reports that it received applications from 473 African Americans for this coming fall’s entering class. This is the highest number of black applicants in the college’s history.
