Awards
• Haywood L. Brown, Roy T. Parker Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Duke University Medical Center, received the Alumni Excellence Award from North Carolina A&T State University. A 1974 graduate of North Carolina A&T, Brown went on to earn a medical degree from Wake Forest University School of Medicine.
• Gerald R. Fricks, executive director of the Oklahoma chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving, received the distinguished alumnus award from Texas Tech University in Lubbock. He is the first African American to win the award who was not an athlete at Texas Tech.
