Grants

• Southern University, the historically black educational institution in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, will be participating in a $1.5 million grant from the National Science Foundation. Under the program, middle school teachers from Louisiana public schools will attend workshops at Southern University to learn how to better integrate information technology into their curricula.

Philander Smith College, the historically black educational institution in Little Rock, Arkansas, received a five-year, $2.9 million grant for student recruitment and retention in the natural and physical sciences.

Tennessee State University, the historically black educational institution in Nashville, was awarded a $1 million grant from the U.S. Air Force’s Office of Scientific Research. The funds will be used to establish a nanoscience and biotechnology laboratory on campus.
