FBI Declines to Reopen the Investigation of the 1968 Orangeburg Massacre at Historically Black South Carolina State University

The Federal Bureau of Investigation has declined to reopen the case of three African-American college students at South Carolina State University who were shot and killed in 1968 in what has become to be known as the Orangeburg Massacre. Nine white state troopers were initially charged in the case but all were acquitted of any wrongdoing. The FBI concluded that a new prosecution would subject the troopers to double jeopardy.
