Appointments

Bernice Johnson was named interim provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs at North Carolina Central University. Dr. Johnson, who has taught at the university since 1979, had been serving as dean of the University College.

Dr. Johnson holds a master’s degree from Pennsylvania State University and a doctorate from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

• Marshall Shepherd, an associate professor of geography at the University of Georgia, was elected a fellow of the American Meteorological Society. Only two tenths of one percent of society members are elected as fellows.

• Abu Karimu Mboka was named assistant professor of criminal justice at California State University Stanislaus. He was on the faculty at Arizona State University, West, in Glendale.
