Kenyan Scholar at University of New Mexico Arrested and Scheduled for Deportation

Chao Sio, a Kenyan who taught Swahili in the African-American studies department at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, was arrested and is awaiting deportation to her native land. Sio, now 30 years old, came to the United States seven years ago on a student visa. When the visa expired she applied for political asylum. This request was denied.
