Retirement
• Irvin D. Reid, the first black president of Wayne State University in Detroit, has announced that he will step down at the end of the academic year. Reid, now 66 years old, said that he felt that the time was right for him to retire. Over the past decade, Reid had doubled the on-campus student enrollment and nearly tripled annual fundraising totals.
