African-American Physician Offers New Training Program for Caregivers of Black Alzheimer’s Patients

Floyd B. Willis, a graduate of the Morehouse School of Medicine and chair of the department of family medicine at the Mayo Clinic, has founded a new training program in Florida for caregivers of African-American Alzheimer’s patients. The Alzheimer’s Caregiver Training and Support project is a 12-week program that can be conducted by telephone or in the classroom. The program aims to give the caregivers the skills they need to deal with their patients but at the same time bolster their own mental and physical well-being.
