Racial Incidents at Bucknell University and Georgia Tech

No HateStudents have just arrived on campus at thousands of colleges and universities across the United States. But it didn’t take long for racism to rear its ugly head.

At Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, what was called “racist, hateful language” was written on a whiteboard that was hanging on a faculty member’s office door. Bucknell University President Jon Bravman said in an email to the campus community that “we are doing all we can to identify the individual(s) responsible for this disgusting display of intolerance. We cannot allow acts such as this to derail our efforts toward genuine and needed change.”

At the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, a Black woman student said that three White men yelled racial slurs at her from a window of their fraternity house. When the woman shared her story on Twitter, she said several other members of the university community responded that they too had been subjected to racial slurs from the same fraternity. Nearly 100 students held a silent protest outside the fraternity house.
