Texas Southern University Suspends Its Marching Band After Alleged Hazing Incident

Texas Southern University, the historically Black educational institution in Houston, has suspended its Ocean of Soul marching band, which it  refers to as the most exciting band on the planet, after allegations that one section of the band engaged in a hazing incident. The band did not perform at the university’s football game last Thursday evening.

A report on a local television station said that the alleged hazing involved a paddling incident among trumpet players in the band.

A video promoting the Ocean of Soul band appears below.

Update: Texas Southern University removed 10 students from the band and suspended them from the university as the result of its investigation into hazing. The suspension was lifted on October 15 and the band was permitted to practice and play at home football games.
