Jackie Leonard Joins the Faculty at the University of Wyoming

Jacqueline Leonard is a new professor of elementary and early childhood education at the University of Wyoming. She was also appointed to a five-year term as director of the Science and Mathematics Teaching Center at the university. Since 2011 she was a professor of education at the University of Denver. She previously taught at Temple University and Southern Illinois University. Dr. Leonard taught for 15 years in the public schools in Missouri, Texas, and Maryland before she began her career in higher education.

Professor Leonard is the author of Culturally Specific Pedagogy in the Mathematics Classroom: Strategies for Teachers and Students (Routledge, 2007). She is co-editor of the soon to be released book, The Brilliance of Black Children in Mathematics: Beyond the Numbers and Toward New Discourse.

Professor Leonard is a graduate of Saint Louis University. She holds master’s degrees from the University of Texas at Dallas and Southern Methodist University. She earned a doctorate in mathematics education at the University of Maryland College Park.
