Chad Williams to Lead Black Studies Department at Brandeis University

Chad L. Williams was appointed chair of the department of African and Afro-American studies at Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts. He has been an associate professor of history at Hamilton College in Clinton, New York.

Professor Williams is the author of the award-winning book, Torchbearers of Democracy: African American Soldiers in the World War I Era (University of North Carolina Press, 2010).

Dr. Williams is a graduate of the University of California at Los Angeles. He earned a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in history at Princeton University.
