New Online Store Features HBCU Licensed Clothing for Professional Women

When Clover McFadden graduated from Howard University with a degree in chemistry, she planned on continuing her education in medical school. But instead, she has launched Circa 1837, a new online store for women featuring licensed merchandise from historically Black universities and sororities. (The first HBCU was founded circa 1837.)

McFadden saw a need for a national online store where people could go to get merchandise from a large number of HBCUs. And she thought the HBCU apparel that was available was directed mainly at men. The items at her online store are geared toward professional women.

So far she is offering cardigans, jackets, pants, and tops featuring 28 HBCUs and hopes to obtain license agreements with all Black colleges and universities.
